Why Are We Fundraising?
NCFHAAA is seeking capital support for the renovation of the Friendship Center in Emporia to facilitate the expansion, centralization, and improvement of senior services in Lyon County.
The Friendship Center is a building located at 221 W. Logan Ave. in Emporia. Purchased by NCFHAAA in 2009, it has been used for Friendship Meals – commonly known as “Meals on Wheels” – and houses the Emporia branch offices of NCFHAAA. The building is in need of extensive repair and renovation in order to improve its function, efficiency, general soundness, and appearance.
The purpose of this renovation is to improve a dated, inefficient building, allowing the Friendship Center to better function as a hub for Lyon County senior services (to become the hub and serve as a one stop shop for Lyon County Senior Services)
In 2018, 5,869 persons age 60+ resided in Lyon County, comprising approximately 17.4% of the total population. Of these senior citizens, 561 belonged to a minority group, 565 were living below the poverty level, and 1,518 were living alone. NCFHAAA’s programs and services are critical to these seniors living independently.
