Sunflower Seed Gatherings
Since we could not host our treasured Sunflower Fair in 2020, the NC-FH AAA is bringing something special and more personal to a community near you.
Please join us for our “Sunflower Seed Gatherings” where you'll learn helpful and useful information on topics important for Older Kansans and caregivers. All pre-recorded presentations will be simulcasted to small groups organized across the region, with speakers available remotely to answer questions. Our line up of speakers and session topics include the following:
Paul Shipp, Managing Attorney for Kansas Legal Services and experienced elder law attorney, will present on "The Durable Power of Attorney: What to know and how to be a success in carrying out your responsibilities."
Karen Mayse, veteran Medicare benefits counselor will update you on "Medicare: What is Joe Namath selling? The array of Medicare options.”
Michelle Niedens, Clinical Social Worker with the KU Alzheimer's Disease Center, will share “It Takes a Village! What we can do to best help people with dementia and their caregivers."
Our next gathering will be:
Tuesday, September 29 from 9:15 am to 2:30 pm in Junction City and in Minneapolis. The Geary County Senior Center is located at 1025 S. Spring Valley Rd., and The Minneapolis Senior Center is located at 114 S. Concord St, Minneapolis, KS. The presentation will also be made available to remote participants through Zoom. Instructions for those who are new to Zoom can be found here. Lunch is available to participants at both locations. To meet social distancing requirements, space at each location is limited and wearing of masks is required. Please register no later than 6 pm on the day before.
Please check back as well for additional dates and locations. Previous sessions were held Aug 25 in Manhattan and Wamego, and September 17 in Manhattan and Emporia.
All seminars are free to attend. If you would like to make a contribution to help cover costs and support this educational program, your donations are gladly welcomed. All of our Sunflower Seed Gatherings are hosted as part of the NC-FH AAA’s ongoing AOK Seminar Series.
