July Seminars: Medicare Basics and Durable Powers of Attorney

The North Central-Flint Hills Area Agency on Aging (NC-FH AAA) is announcing more dates for our Medicare Basics and Durable Power of Attorney seminars that are provided through the Answers for Older Kansans program.
Karen Mayse, a certified Medicare Benefits counselor with more than ten years of experience in explaining Medicare to Kansans, will present each of the twenty-six seminars beginning in July.
Medicare is health insurance for people who are 65 or better and for people who qualify because of disabilities. The two-part Zoom Medicare Basics seminar series provides an easy-to-understand overview of Medicare, steps to enrollment and explains how Medicare works with employer’s insurance. It also provides information about Extra Help and other Medicare Savings Programs and addresses participants’ questions.
Medicare Basics Part 1 seminars will be on Wednesday July 1st, at 5:30 pm; Wednesday July 8th, at 5:30 pm; Wednesday July 15th, at 22nd at 2:00 pm; and Wednesday July 29th, at 5:30 pm.
Medicare Basics Part 2 will be on Thursday, July 2nd at 5:30 pm; Thursday, July 9th at 5:30 pm; Thursday, July 16th at 2:00 pm; and Thursday, July 30th at 5:30 pm.

Paul Shipp is the Managing Attorney with Flint Hills Legal Services who has 20 years of experience in elder law. Paul will be presenting twelve seminars providing trustworthy information on Durable Powers of Attorney (DPOAs) and Living Wills. There will be one set of “Choosing Someone to Help You” seminars explaining Living Will and DPOAs for those who are interested in naming a DPOA. There will be another set of “The Person Chosen” seminars for family and friends who have been named as DPOAs and want a better understanding of their responsibilities and how to carry them out. There will be one of each seminar on the dates provided. Seniors and their DPOA caregivers are encouraged to attend both sessions together. Additionally, Paul will be available for 30 minute individual consultations following the seminars. Registration for these consultations will be made available for attendees prior to the seminars. Information packets created by Kansas Legal Services specifically for this initiative will be available to each participant who registers.
The Living Will and DPOA (Choosing Someone to Help You) will be available via Zoom on Wednesday, July 1st at 10:00 am; Wednesday, July 9th at 10:00 am; and Wednesday, July 30th at 10:00 am.
The Responsibilities of the DPOA (The Person Chosen) will be available via Zoom on Wednesday July 1st, at 2:00 pm; Wednesday July 9th at 2:00 pm; and Wednesday July 30th at 2:00 pm.
